Pansy Nell Caldwell, age 89, died and passed on to heaven on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, in Candler, NC, where she demonstrated her love for others even through her last days. Nell was born on March 8, 1921 in York, SC. Nell met Edward (E.E.)Eldridge Caldwell at Beacon Manufacturing in Asheville and they were married soon after on September 6, 1941 in Greenville, SC. Ed passed away on May 12, 1992, in Asheville, NC.
Ed and Nell lived most of their lives in Asheville, interrupted by the time when Ed served in the 102nd Infantry during World War II. Nell practiced as a beautician prior to the birth of her four sons. Cross-stitch, quilting, gardening, cooking, baking, reading and studying the Bible were some of the activities Nell enjoyed.
Nell was a life-long member of Sardis United Methodist Church, and she was a generous contributor to Elida Home for Children and Western Carolina University, where all four of her sons graduated. Nell and Ed had a strong commitment to education; she supported Ed in his service to our local schools on the Buncombe County School Board and the Venable PTA.
Nell is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, and nine grandchildren: Bruce and Judy Caldwell, son, Jordan; Ralph and Rebecca Caldwell, sons, Jonathan and Christopher; Roger Lee and Janice Caldwell, sons, Benjamin, Thad, and Logan; and Paul and Cecelia Caldwell, daughters, Anna, Brooke and Leah. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and no child could have ever wished for a finer 'Granny'.
The family invites friends to a graveside service on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler conducted by Rev. David Duncan. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, 30 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home for the caring and competent care she received.
'Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things'So faith, hope, love abide, but the greatest of these is love.' Nells's life was built upon love and hop for others.
